Our Board

Chair: Murt Coleman. 

Murt is a former international marathon runner who advises long-distance athletes to continue the legacy of Jerry Kiernan, who was a lifelong friend and training partner

Murt is a former Managing Director of Irishenco, a civil engineering and marine contracting company. His career and expertise involved him in the construction of major bridges and harbour works in Ireland and Africa.

With a Civil Engineering degree from University College Galway, Murt served on the Executive Board ,Council and as Chair of the Finance Committee at Engineers Ireland for eight years. His contributions were honoured with an Engineers Ireland President’s Award at the Engineers Ireland Excellence Awards 2017.

Brian Coleman

Brian is a qualified primary school teacher and has worked in education his entire career. From 2002 until 2021 he taught in St Brigid's BNS, Foxrock and had the good fortune to teach alongside Jerry for many of those years. Brian has a Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership in Education and in September 2021 assumed the role of Principal in Scoil Mhuire, Shankill.

Brian has been involved in sport his entire life. He has been running competitively for almost 20 years, benefitting from Jerry's guidance for much of that time. He is the founder and Meet Director of the Athletics for Primary Schools (APS) initiative. Every year APS runs an indoor athletics event in the National Indoor Arena for primary school children with the objective of promoting the Athletics strand of the PE curriculum.

 

Greta Hickey

Greta Hickey is a former International distance athlete. She was honoured to represent Ireland, captaining teams in World Cross Country and other European and World Road Racing Championships. Greta was also a member of the Dublin City Harriers team, winning back-to-back European Clubs Cross Country Championships in the 1980’s.

Greta has worked for Irish and Multinational companies, primarily in export markets, covering account management, supply chain logistics, while managing compliance in both import / export procedures and financial governance. Greta is passionate about sport, and what it brings to participants in terms of both enjoyment and personal achievement.

Tom Hickey

Tom has had an extensive international career as a senior Finance Executive, Non Executive Director and advisor to public and private Energy and technology businesses. He is founder and Chief Executive of Boru Energy, a private business focused on Energy Investments in Africa and a Non-Executive director of United Oil and Gas and teamwork, a specialist software business based in Cork.

Tom, who is is a Commerce graduate of University College Dublin and a Fellow of the Irish Institute of Chartered Accountants, has been involved in Athletics for over 40 years as a competitive club athlete and enthusiastic supporter of Irish athletes. He is also a director of Donore Harriers, one of Irelands' longest established and most successful athletics Clubs.

Fergal Coleman

Fergal Coleman is based in Melbourne, Australia and is the co-founder and CEO of Symphony3, a technology platform business delivering services to clients in  the government and industrial business-to-business sectors. 

Fergal is a past president of the Irish Australian Chamber of Commerce, helping to facilitate trade between Ireland and Australia.

Fergal is a Business and Legal Studies Graduate from University College Dublin and has a Masters In Business and IT from the University of Melbourne. Fergal received a scholarship to play football at UCD and represented Ireland at the World Student Games in 1997. He played in the National League of Ireland for many years with UCD, Galway United, Drogheda United and Longford Town.

Fergal is passionate about sport and the life skills and values it instills in to young athletes across all disciplines.
